Our babies are just one day apart. Its funny how relationships start when you think back to the beginning of them. Ariel and I met at church when we both had been married for a short time. We hung out a few times and our husbands seemed to like each other. Her and I hit it off after an Evanescence concert when we discovered our common pure hatred for X box playing. We have been buddies ever since. :)

Things I was blown away by after birth.

I've always heard lots of stories about birth and little babies, but some things you just can't be quite prepared for.
-The pain was horrifying when I was dilated to a 5. The impact of the contractions on the body is scary because at 3 am in the morning, my body was starting to shake and twitch because of the unfamiliar intensity of the situation. I am glad that I know now what it feels like though.
-I was very surprised when my doctor said that I tore as much as someone can tear in 3 different directions. He put in lots of stitches while I was cuddling my newborn.
-I didn't know it would be so hard to go to the bathroom for a couple days.
-Gordon was able to suck on the breast within 45 minutes after being born which was amazing! The frustrations of breast feeding are quite astonishing; however, while waiting for milk to come in and the nipple gets so worn out and dry. Having a baby fight the nipple every once in a while is enough to drive you crazy. All in all my breast feeding experience has been great compared to some of the horror stories I have heard.

Best Buddies

Every Morning there is some sun light that shines through our glass door onto our bed and Gordon loves to feel that heat on his skin. He sprawls out with the happiest face. Its one of my favorite parts of the day.

Some of you know how much I love breast feeding and people who breast feed. Here is my favorite view of my little babe. Big eyes while he gets drunk on milk. I had too much milk, so I had to pump a lot out and this was my first result. Kyle lifted his eye brows and said, orange juice? I could keep pumping and feed 5 babies with all this milk, but unfortunately I don't want to, so I am trimming down my supply. If you know what I mean.

Maternity Jeans

I made these Maternity Jeans in my sewing class. It was not easy, but really fun. At school we have an expensive embroidery machine that I did the pocket design with. I had to buy really thick heavy duty thread to do the stitching. I also found a cool little machine at school that does a triple stitch which is the closest thing I could find to expensive stitched jeans. Someday I will have an expensive sewing machine too. I know it!

12 Days til due date

When I lay down to sleep at night, it feels like the baby has anxiety all of a sudden, as though he does not like to be horizontal inside of me. He stretches extra long to ensure that I cannot inhale enough air into my lungs. This causes me to sit up or stand up. He gets what he wants(to be vertical) so it seems.
When I wake up in the mornings, I have swollen knuckles, it feels like arthritis, but threw out the day it goes away. My arms also go numb easily during the night. When I try to reach for things with my fingers, I feel a tingling numb sensation in my arms. Very odd.
My ankles are swollen, but the left is much worse than the right. My shins feel like they have bruises. Hypno-babies recordings put me to sleep way too easy, so I'm not sure how productive I will be with learning the information.
Today as I was walking on campus, I started to feel painful contractions. I went to class and sat in agony for 30 min. until they stopped. Then I really felt happy, after I didn't have to feel those sensations any longer. A hint of how happy I will feel after the baby is out.
I bought this cute bassinet from a neighbor. I love it.

Meeting and talking with people who I would not normally chat with.
Feeling the baby move all around and laughing at his sporadic nature.

Things I don't like...
Sitting for long classes and feeling pain in my right rib and back because its so tight and small in my stomach for such a big boy.
Waking up every couple hours during the night to pee, drink, eat, and put chap stick on.
Not being able to fit in any cute jeans. It could be worse :)

Pregnancy: I would not say its aweful for me, but I would not say its delightful either. Managing morning sickness wasn't too bad becuase I could eat one piece of toast and then anything after 10 am was fine. It was fun when the baby started moving, but now my stomach is so tight, its a bit uncomfortable when he moved from side to side. My sitting time is getting shorter and shorter. I get a lot of back aches. A month ago I could sit in my school classes for an hour till my back hurt, but now its down to 15 minutes and the aching is excruciating. Poor Kyle has become my daily massage therapist. I get charlie horses in my calf's when I wake up in the morning if I don't stretch the night before. The doctor said that a pregnant woman's immune system shuts down and is very asceptible to sickness. I believe that since I had a cold a month ago and another one this week. Its the worst! I have a strict schedule stupid common cold, no time for you! I'm scared to have my own kids and worry about how to take care of them when they are sick. Kyle is so nice, he asks me every hour if I am doing ok and if he can do anything for me. At work people have been super nice, they do their best to not make me carry anything heavy and co-workers often trade me easy side work for hard side work.

I never intended to impose my love of classical music on my spouse, but oh my goodness, he loves classical music now too! All the time he turns the radio to the classical station. He hums and whistles all my classical melodies that I practice for voice lessons. When I start to sing a phrase he will finish it. He is way more musical than anyone would expect! He usually listens to old school rock or the latest punk bands, but today as he was fixing the car in the garage he was listening to early Baroque symphonies! I cannot believe my ears!!!

New Car

I told Kyle we needed a 4 door car for the baby, so after a month of researach he bought a used car. We actually bought the exact same car 2 years ago while livinig in Salt Lake City, but we really didn't need it at the time, so we sold it and now we have another one. A BMW m5. It was born in 1992 when it was the fastest 4 door car in the world. the engine was used in Formula 1 racing cars before. Pretty crazy! It basically looks like this with different rims and Kyle put the stock orange lights back on the front. Kyle is living a dream with his two favorite race cars in our garage and a new baby coming named after her sweet Grandpa Gordon.

Blood Type

So I have an interesting blood type which I have always known about, but never really understood. I looked online to discover that my blood (0- Blood) type can only accept 0- blood. My blood is not the most rare, but it is not in high abundance either, so if I needed a blood transfusion things could be scary. My doctor said its good to know of friends and family who have 0- blood in case of an emergency because it could be a problem. If you have 0- blood please let me know :)! If you don't know your blood type you should find out because for someone like me its critical in an emergency situation. Here are two websites that explain blood type and how they function.

Deaf & Hard of Hearing

I am taking ASL IV this semester! Its really fun and demanding. I stopped studying ASL for a couple years, so now I am in catch up mode, but it all comes back fast. There are always interesting stories to contemplate and try to comprehend from my deaf friends. One man named John said that he lost his hearing between the age of 6-9 because he got sick with a really high fever and started to become hard of hearing. He said his family did not accept that he could not hear, so they didn't help him learn sign or even try to communicate with him in any way besides mouthing words to him. He said trying to read lips was really frustrating and just resulted in isolation of no one trying to communicate with him. He did not meet another deaf person for 7 years. He said he felt abandoned by his family because they did not try to relate with him. When he went to College in Washington DC at Gaulladet University for the the deaf he discovered thousands of people who use ASL and he caught on quickly, but he was really far behind. He was more happy to have the comradery of fellow deaf colleagues than his own family because he could communicate. He is so grateful when people learn ASL because he loves to talk with people.
Another man Clarke told me about when he went to "Oral" schools as a child. They would try to make the deaf kids speak and if they ever used sign language they were punished with severe abuse. He said he didn't know how to communicate to his parents that the teachers abused him. He didn't learn Sign Language till later in life either because it was unacceptable for someone to speak with their hands.
I am so sorry thinking that these two incredible friends of mine had to suffer these horrible misfortunes. Something to think about when it comes to accepting other ways of life.

Florida was amazing! I loved singing all the time, but it was very intimidating with so much talent running around and very influential show directors at every corner. I sung for David Friedman, who wrote lots of music, most popular for his Disney Hunch Back of Not-re Dame and Beauty & the Beast. I coached with famous directors like Eric Dillner, Susan Yankee, and Andrew Bisantz. I coached with famous Baritone's Sherill Milnes and Tito Capobianco. I know none of these people will mean anything to anybody, but it was truely an incredible experience to meet, mingle, and work with so many big names. One of my favorite parts was meeting 2 other girls that are Coloratura Soprano's. I don't think in 24 years that I have ever met another TRUE Coloratura. I would post pics, but I don't know where they are, so facebook is where they are right now.

If you are not currently a mom you probably won't care about this. I'm glad my own mom talked to me about breastfeeding and its importance. Breast-feeding was the standard method of feeding virtually all infants until the 1930's when formulas based on cow's milk and additional vitamins and minerals were created. In the early weeks of breastfeeding you may need to pump because the breasts can become uncomfortably engorged. If you have flat or inverted nipples, pumping briefly before feeding can draw your nipples out and make it easier for your new born to latch.

A widespread belief among pre nineteenth century physicians was that if a woman was sexually active during lactation, her breast milk would curdle. When relatively safe artificial feeding of babies was first developed in the United States, like the services of a wet nurse, it quickly became a status symbol. The baby bottle seemed the tangible evidence of the modern woman’s liberation from drudgery and therefore superior to old fashion methods.

Alternatives to breastfeeding. A solution is to seek out a donor of breast milk from a friend, family member, or third person party. Make sure this person is screened for HIV as well as other conditions that can affect breast milk. Anonymous breast milk donors are also available. This is becoming a popular solution in North America. Milk banks run on the same principle as sperm banks. All the milk is donated and screened for harmful conditions.

We live in a formula, bottle feeding culture. Bottle feeding is perceived a s the normal and socially acceptable way to nourish a baby. Both the real and imagined disapproval of others can be enough to cause a breastfeeding mother to carry a bottle when traveling outside her own home. Its as if complete physical and social isolation from the family unit as well as visitors is a price mother’s have to pay in order to breastfeed. Every mother needs to know that it is not illegal for her to breastfeed her baby anywhere in the United States. Many states have enacted legislation that clearly recognizes breastfeeding as a mother’s natural right. Such legislation protects mothers from being charged with a criminal offence such as indecent exposure.

Even though almost 60% of new mothers try to breastfeed today, the generation that mothered us was brain washed by formula companies and medical literature. They were taught that breastfeeding was gross and unsanitary and that formula was modern and healthy. Less than 20% of mothers breastfeed now in the United States. Many diseases, some annoying, some chronic, and some fatal, seem to be tied to not absence of breast milk. About 4 out of 1000 babies in the U.S. alone dies every year as a direct result of not getting breast milk. Breast fed babies on average are healthier, leaner, and smarter. These conclusions are not based on fanaticism, they are based on science. As a culture we do not value breastfeeding, so when it doesn’t work, those who should be supporting you, hospital staff, doctors, friends, relatives-may not know that breastfeeding is possible for more than 95 % of new mothers. In many other countries it is considered unethical to not breastfeed. The fact that breasts are not a big deal in other parts of the world; may help explain why the world wide average age of weaning is 4.2 years old.

Kyle and I have found a love for Thai food. We like to eat Curry more than any food out there. After spending a lot of money at restaurants for Thai food. Kyle decided to look up Curry recipes online. He found this company called Curry Simple. He said we can buy 10 curry packets for $60 and the amount of food it serves us will be 50 meals. We would spend $60 at a restaurant after going there twice for only 4 meals. I was skeptical that this curry would not taste good. I hate buying things on the Internet. I'm so tired of people judging and assuming. This is my vent for the year about it. I often hear people say that I must have been born with a beautiful singing voice and have never had to try very hard for nice sounds to come out of my mouth. This is very UN true, ask my mom. I am sad that someone would not even consider that I have been practicing my whole life to sing. Time adds up for all you impatient people out there.

Because I am a calm soft spoken person, people always say how naive I am. What does that even mean? Because I don't drink, smoke, sleep with multiple people, or swear, it means that I am naive and not privileged to be part of many conversations. Ugh that’s so inconsiderate and ignorant of you to say or think. Have I not experienced life as everyone else has?

This one is for my brothers and sisters. Just because I am the youngest of five, does not mean that I do not have any advice for you or consoling words. I grew up too, ya know. I can see some things clearer than others can see them. I am tired of you under-estimating me, but very used to it. I don't think there is a need to bring up the past, but recognize these behaviors and be aware for the future. I still love you, calm down.

I wanted to make a 1950's one piece swim suit that can cover as much of my behind as I want. The bottom of this swim suit has so much gathering that instantly it can become a dress that reaches my knees, which is very cool.

People are so open to talk to complete strangers about life lessons and the people in their life that inspire them.
I transferred to Chili's seeing that it is owned by the same company. I highly enjoy it! The difference is exilerating. Better managers, better co-workers, happier guests, love it.
Kyle is selling rock chip repair and its good for him to be his own boss. He is so strong.
I was thinking today about all my single friends, and what it would be like to be single still. How aweful!!!! I can't imagine looking for someone to chase after and play dating games with. Going to sleep alone and always having to put on a happy face because no one has enough time to listen to you. Ugh, I feel sad for anyone who has to go from being married to single for any reason.

Work Anxiety

When I serve for more than 6 hours, I cannot seem to leave my work behind me. If I try to sleep, my brain feels like I am on some kind of drugs and I cannot relax at all. Or when I come home and I feel like I cannot do another thing besides sit and stare at the wall because my brain is preoccupied with the last 6 hours of work. I think this means that serving is bad for me in excess of work. What a panzy I am.

So since we have been back from Michigan, I have been sad to be away from such sweet family. I am never disappointed by my emotions to show me how much I miss family. I will always pray to be closer to them, so that we don't grow apart. I remember as a young girl when I would come to visit my sisters or Brother at BYU, we would have so much fun talking and playing. Then on the car ride home, I would cry to not be in the presence of those siblings whom I love so much. For me it seems that when family is away, I forget how much I love them and then when they are taken away from me I can feel the difference in the atmosphere and it hurts my heart. Sometimes I wonder if my siblings had not been split apart at such a young age, how different life would be.

1. Had a picnic next to Lake Erie (My most favorite activity ever), and we could see Canada in the distance.
2. Played games with my neices like...Hide & Seek, Tag, Duck Duck Goose, Chess, Checkers, Chutes & Ladders, Candy Land, Frosted cupcakes, made messes.
3.Visited the Henry Ford Museum, where there were sweet cars, lots of machinery, and a 10 man bicycle.
4.Celebrated a 6 year olds birthday by going to the water park and out for spicy chicken wings.

Summer Jobs

Kyle is doing sales again as always. I will buy anyone a meal at macaroni grill if they can name all the sales jobs Kyle has had since his mission. The free-bee is hus current job is "rock chip repair". I started working at Macaroni Grill as a server and sung Happy Birthday in Italian on my second day of working, pretty fun! We are going on a trip to Michigan to see the family and maybe to New York for sight seeing, if anyone has some pointers.

So Giving plasma is an interesting way to make a few bucks. Unfortunately today my blood decided to stop flowing and they had to stick both arms, but nothing came out the 2nd time either, so after I was stuck for 2 hours with needles, they decided to pay me and send me on my way. I had given almost all the plasma and 250 mL of Blood, no good since I had to go to work and feel nausious and tired.

I have noticed that in the 1950's and 60's girls were a bit larger then they are now. The swim-suits were more modest and angelic. Girls were not so worried about their bodies and just looked the way they did and didn't stress about their body shape every hour of the day, as admittingly I am guilty of. I have often tried to look good in a bikini, and it has made me very vain and annoyed that my pear shaped hips just aren't like the models everywhere. I have converted to one pieces that cover me up and look sophisticated.

The L.A. Lakers were in town ofcoarse! Kyle and I were walking around at the Gateway Mall and we saw these tall famous men. Mind you, I am a Huge Jazz fan, but talent like these guys have cannot be denied! Here is Luke Walton, Trevor Ariza, Josh Powel, and behind me was Jordan Farmar. They were a little bit scared because of some angry fans behind us, but Jordan opended the door for me even though I called him shorty. Kyle and I were star struck to see them, it was so weird.

-I finally had a really good performance in my opera class. It feels like a miracle, somehow I was able to push the nerves aside and do my thing, which succeeded in my getting the role I wanted in our next performance of Yeomen of The Guard. wha hoo! Kuddos for me
-So Kyle's parents moved back from New Mexico, way exciting for us because having them here is so much fun! They are the most energetic family all the time, and they love to be together, which is so refreshing.

This past semester at the University of Utah, I have had some interesting feelings that struck me. The teaching atmosphere here is really quite unique in that the teachers expect more out of there students then anywhere else. I like that I tend to rise to the occasion since my teachers have such high expectations. On one side of this concept, however; the expectation can be so high that often I feel asthough I am not able to accomplish the things that have been set before me to do. This can be very stressful and heart wrenching, but I just keep trudging with all my strength to do the best I can and hope that in the end it will amount to enough.
I have wanted so badly to make good impressions here at the "U", that I have aquired a lot of nervous habits, things that I went through when I first starting performing, like shaking knees, hands, and cheeks. I hope they will calm down soon. I often feel overly anxious to get approval from my teachers and while feeling this way, I go crazy!

School is back in season for 2 weeks now. I love school, but the idea of just having a job where I get paid to be there sounds really nice right now. For Opera class we our working on an opera called Yoemen of the Guard which we have to perform in 4 weeks and we got our music last week. Thats really pushing our abilities considering all the other extra activities that we do at school. Kyle and I have been called to the same calling of second counselors in the Young men and Young Women, its fun to be with the young minds. We live in an area, where we seldom see caucasion people, so kyle is always trying to spread the gospel to everyone he meets, which is an amazing skill. Thats all folks

Kyle played Santa at Jason's Deli for all the lil kiddies. Jason's Deli sells healthy food, so thats why they thought it would be a great idea to have a skinny santa.

We left snowboarding early cuz it was extremely cold and windy. Kyle did not want to remember this moment, so he was angry at me for taking the pic, but I rather like his terrified angry face.
When we drove home it took 2.5 hours to get through park city and over parley's summit cuz of bad roads and traffic, it should only take 30 minutes.

At the canyons, they have big mountains, gondola's, and expensive hotels.
